    Construct a Working Outline

    For this exercise, you will use the Argus Clearinghouse, one of the topical browsers.

    First, select the category called "environment."

    Then, on a plain sheet of paper, diagram a working outline similar to that found on page 227. When you are done, return to and complete the following questions.

    1. What are coordinate points for a speech on the environment?

    2. Sometimes, identifying a number of coordinate points leads to the realization that your topic is too broad. How would you narrow your topic to adapt to the constraints of a speech assignment in your class?
